Ntungamo District has intensified its fight against child malnutrition and poverty with a Shs44.9 million fish restocking initiative targeting valley dams, community water bodies, and individual farmers, in a deliberate push to improve household incomes and nutrition outcomes.

Thousands Bid Farewell to Pan-Africanist Anania Mugisha

Itojo, Ntungamo — A sea of mourners gathered on Sunday at Itojo playground in Itojo Sub County to pay their final respects to Anania Mugisha, fondly known as Kyafayo, a revered pan-Africanist and former Ntungamo District local government driver.

Born in 1952, Mugisha passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026, after a short illness. His life was marked by dedication to family and community, leaving behind three wives, 12 children, three sons-in-law, eight daughters-in-law, and 30 grandchildren.

Nyabihoko Farmers Trained in Digital Tools to Boost Modern Agriculture

Farmers from Kanyampumo in Nyabihoko Sub-county, Ntungamo District, have received specialized training in digital agricultural tools as part of a new initiative aimed at improving modern farming practices and increasing productivity.

The training, held today at Nyabihoko Cooperative Society, targeted 30 farmers who are registered members of the cooperative. It was conducted under the Ntungamo District Production Department in partnership with Sustainable Crop Production and PlantwisePlus.

Ntungamo District Crowned Overall Winners in National Scouting Competitions

Ntungamo District has emerged victorious in the National Scouting Competitions, clinching the overall trophy and two other major awards at the Kaazi National Camping Grounds in Entebbe.

The competitions, which kicked off on 21st August and concluded on 28th August 2025, attracted scouts from across the country. Ntungamo was recognized as the best and highest mobilizer of schools, with 21 institutions—including Muntuyera High School—actively participating. The district also triumphed in the scouts’ football competitions.

 Baylor Uganda Trains Ntungamo Health Teams on Disease Surveillance and Cross-Border Threat Response

Baylor Uganda, with support from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has conducted a high-impact training aimed at strengthening disease surveillance capacity in Ntungamo District.

The three days training which started on Tuesday  and  held at the Ntungamo District Council Hall, brought together health professionals and district-level trainers, equipping them with essential knowledge and skills to boost early detection, reporting, and response to public health threats especially those arising from cross-border movements.

Ntungamo District Launches Shs45 Million Upgrade of Nyakyera–Ngoma–Nyarutuntu Road

The Ntungamo District leadership has launched a Shs45 million project to upgrade the 13.5-kilometre Nyakyera–Ngoma–Nyarutuntu road, marking a major step in efforts to improve rural infrastructure and stimulate economic activity.

The road, which connects key trading centres and farming communities in Nyakyera Sub-county, has been in poor condition for over four years. Deep gullies, frequent washaways during rainy seasons, and eroded culverts had rendered it nearly impassable—hindering access to markets, schools, and health facilities.

Ugandans Urged to Embrace Joint Efforts in Fight Against HIV/AIDS

Health stakeholders in Ntungamo District have called for increased joint efforts in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS, citing growing concern over rising infections, especially among married couples and in rural communities.

The call was made on Tuesday afternoon by Nesterio Twesigye, the Ntungamo District Health Educator, during orientation of district HIV/AIDS champions, held at the Ntungamo District boardroom which brought together journalists, politicians, members of the business community, and local communicators.
