Lt. Col. James Mwesigye, the Commissioner in charge of Resident District Commissioners for the Western Region, has called for enhanced collaboration between government communication officers and security personnel to improve service delivery and strengthen public trust at the grassroots level.
Speaking on Wednesday 16th April, 2025 during the official opening of a two-day joint retreat for District Communication Officers and District Internal Security Officers (DISOs) from the southwestern sub-region, Lt. Col. Mwesigye emphasized the critical need for greater synergy in government operations. The retreat is taking place at Dreamwood Hotel in Mbarara City.
“In a time when effective communication is critical to governance, effective coordination between communication and security teams is vital,” Mwesigye stated. “It not only ensures timely, accurate, and secure dissemination of government information but also promotes peace, transparency, and development within our communities.”
The retreat brings together key stakeholders to align strategies and bridge existing communication gaps at the district level.
Major Salvan Turyatunga, Director of Mass Media at the Internal Security Organization (ISO), echoed the call for improved coordination, noting that the initiative aims to boost the credibility and effectiveness of government messaging.
“This retreat is a strategic step toward restoring public confidence in local government operations. It seeks to enhance the visibility of government programs and achievements, ensure consistent updates on district and national activities, and improve the overall image of our districts and country. By presenting a unified and accurate narrative, we not only foster public trust but also position ourselves to attract both local and international investors. Strengthening collaboration between our communication and security arms is key to delivering better services and driving sustainable development,” remarked Major Turyatunga.
The event is organized by the Ministry of Information, Communication Technology, and National Guidance in partnership with the Internal Security Organization.
