By Anthony Kushaba
Ntungamo District authorities, in partnership with the Ministry of Water and Environment, have officially launched the construction of a solar-powered water system in Mugyera Parish, Ngoma Sub-county.
The launch event, held in Kabingo Village, involved handing over the construction site to Nexus Green, the contractor tasked with executing the project. Samuel Muchunguzi Rwakigooba, the Ntungamo District Chairperson, reaffirmed the district's commitment to improving access to clean and safe water for drinking and domestic use. He emphasized plans to extend similar projects to Ngoma Sub-county, citing persistent water challenges affecting households and agricultural activities.
Rwakigooba commended the Ministry of Water and Environment and development partners for funding the initiative. He also appreciated local residents who contributed by donating land for the project.
The District Water Officer, Prosper Butubuura, detailed the project’s scope, which includes installing a pump house, a security guard room, solar-powered pumps, fencing, a 1.3-kilometer transmission and distribution line, and a reservoir tank. The water system will serve Kabingo, Rwabashegi, and Muzeire villages and key institutions like Burama Primary School.
Brian Ssemakula, a representative from the Ministry of Water and Environment, highlighted the project’s aim to provide clean water, thereby reducing health-related diseases in the community.
Beine Moses, the Local Council III Councillor, applauded the government for prioritizing the area. He noted that residents currently share muddy water sources with animals, a situation that worsens during the dry season. He expressed optimism that the project would bring much-needed relief.
Ntungamo District Chief Administrative Officer Mathius Ndifuna emphasized the government's significant investment in such projects. He urged residents to safeguard the infrastructure and work closely with contractors to ensure timely completion.
The launch event was attended by local leaders, clergy, and community members who expressed hope that the project would transform daily life by making clean water readily accessible.
