Ntungamo Starts Distribution of Masks

The distribution of government masks has kicked off in the southwestern district of Ntungamo.

 

The exercise that will see 429000 masks distributed to residents above the age of six in Ntungamo district was today flagged off by the Ntungamo resident district commissioner George Bakunda at Ntungamo district headquarters.

 

Bakunda called on the residents of Ntungamo district to put to good use the masks that have been given out to ensure that they stay safe from COVID-19.

10 Contacts of COVID-19 Patient Quarantined in Ntungamo

A total of 10 people have been quarantined at Ntungamo health training institute in Ntungamo district after they got in contact with a truck driver who tested positive to COVID-19.

The contacts were traced after a truck driver who had entered Uganda through Mirama hills and later travelled to Kyabirara Market after spending a night in Rubaare town council –Ntungamo district to load matooke tested positive.

 

Local Leaders Asked to Join Fight Against Defiant Bar Owners

Local leaders in Ntungamo have been urged to join the fight against defiant bar owners who are said to be compromising efforts aimed at fighting COVOD-19.

 

The call was on Tuesday made by the Ntungamo resident district commissioner George Bakunda during a the COVID-19 task force meeting held at Ntungamo district council hall in Ntungamo Municipality.

Ntungamo Leaders Appeal to Well-wishers for Support

Leaders in Ntungamo district have called on well Wishers to support their efforts in the fight against COVID-19.

In a meeting for the district COVID-19 task force held at Ntungamo district headquarters on Wednesday, the leaders resolved to appeal for support from the sons and daughters of the soil as well as other well-wishers.

The area resident district commissioner George Bakunda resolved to appeal for support in form fuel, protective wear among others.

Heavy Rains Destroy Gardens in Ntungamo

Heavy rains that hit Ntungamo district on Monday and Wednesday left of a trail of destruction in the sub counties of Rweikiniro ,Kayonza and Rubaare.

 

Banana farmers are the most affected by the rains as many plantations were brought down and some houses also destroyed.

 

 

The  villages of Nyamabare,Kaboroga,Rushebeya II ,Kyenjojo 1 and Kyenjojo II in Rweikiniro sub county are the most affected where several acres of bananas were destroyed and three houses also destroyed.

 

Ntungamo Farmers Asked to Embrace Safe Pesticide Usage

Farmers in Ntungamo district have been urged to embrace safe pesticide usage in a bid to minimize the effects of pesticides on human beings.

 

The call was on Wednesday made by the Ntungamo district speaker Elijah Atuhaire while speaking at a meeting of the district safe pesticide usage committee held at Ntungamo district headquarters.

 

Ntungamo Schools Face Closure Over Holiday Teaching

Authorities in Ntungamo district have cautioned schools in the area against deviating from the school calendar by opening for a new term before the official opening date.

 

The warning comes amidst reports that some schools mainly privately owned have already opened for the 1st term of 2020 before the official Opening date which is 3rd February 2020.

Construction of 635 M Small Scale Irrigation Scheme Commissioned in Ntungamo

The ministry of water and environment on Thursday launched the construction of Kyamate small scale irrigation system in Ntrungamo Municipality.

 

The project is   being implemented by the ministry of water and environment- water production Regional Centre West Uganda with funding from government of Uganda aimed at improving people’s livelihood through promotion of modern agriculture practices and protecting wetlands by proving irrigation facilities off wetland areas.
