Ntungamo Pupils Head to Tororo for National Kids Athletics

Ntungamo, Uganda — May 4, 2026 Excitement is building as a team of young athletes from Ntungamo District on Sunday off for Tororo Municipality to participate in the National Kids Athletics and Special Needs Championship, scheduled to run from May 3rd to May 12th, 2026.
A total of 24 pupils will represent Ntungamo in the competition, showcasing their talent across different age categories:
Under 12 Boys: 6 athletes
Under 12 Girls: 6 athletes
Under 14 Boys: 6 athletes
Under 14 Girls: 6 athletes
The delegation is being guided by key education leaders, including Mercy Orikiriza, the Senior Education Officer, Mukago Costance, Head Teacher at Iterero Primary School and Sports Coordinator, and Turyomunsi Grace, Head Teacher of Nyakashozi Primary School. Their leadership is expected to inspire the pupils as they compete against peers from across the country.
According to John Kato the chairperson of the head teachers association, the championship in Tororo is not only a platform for nurturing young sporting talent but also an opportunity to promote inclusivity, with special needs athletes participating alongside their peers.
Ntungamo’s contingent is optimistic about making a strong impression and bringing home medals.
Ntungamo resident district commissioner Mary Kagaiga revealed that the pupils embark on this journey, the district community rallies behind them, proud of their achievements and hopeful for their success on the national stage.
