Head teachers in the Ntungamo area have been advised to lead the fight against malnutrition by informing students and their families about the need of adopting good feeding practices.
At a meeting with the head teachers and extension workers to arrange for the Uganda Multi-Sectoral Food Security and Nutrition Project (UMFSNP), the Ntungamo district principal assistant secretary, Fedelis Kiiza, made the call.
Kiiza revealed that the head teachers and teachers play a pivotal role in setting the pace for the children and parents through teaching them better food growing and consumption practices.
Peace Atamba, a senior education officer from the Ntungamo district, stated during the same meeting that nutrition must receive proper attention because students who are undernourished struggle academically.
Esther Atwiine, the principal agriculture officer for the Ntungamo district, stated that the project's goal is to ensure that malnutrition is eradicated in the area through good nutrition, particularly by promoting the consumption of fruits, vegetables, and iron-rich beans.
