Elders have been urged to embrace registration for National Identity cards so that they do not lose out on government services.

The call was on Monday made by Rtd Major General John Mateeka the chairperson for Ntungamo district elderly during a council session held at Ntungamo district council hall.

Mateeka revealed that a section of elders in the district has missed out on the social assistance grant for the elder-SAGE because they do not have national identity cards which he said would have been avoided.

He urged the elders between 75 and 80 to embrace the ongoing registration so that such challenges are not repeated.

National Registration and Identification Authority are carrying out the registration of elders who missed out on the exercise starting with 15th up to 23rd of February, 2022.

The started with the swearing-in of the executive members of the council with John Mateeka as the chairperson, Gideon Kanuuma as a member, Simeon Kakoona a member, Dan Tumusiime as general secretary, Mary Uwagaaga the publicity secretary, and Charles Bakeine as the secretary for finance.

Also in attendance were Ketty Kapasi the district female councilor for the elderly, Anthony Kushaba Byaruhanga the male district councilor for the elderly among others.

Bridget  Kemigisha the acting assistant district health officer urged the public to always support the elder and help them seek medical attention on time.

She added the health workers in the district have already been directed to always give special attention to the older people whenever they visit facilities.
